Dr. Tom Moore

DASH Diet is #1

Welcome to DASH for Health, an online program to help you learn and follow the DASH diet. I'm Dr. Tom Moore. When my colleagues and I first designed and tested the DASH diet, our goal was to create a diet that would lower blood pressure. And it did. In fact, the DASH diet lowers blood pressure as well as a typical high blood pressure medication. And as we did those studies, we found that the DASH diet had other benefits too. People lost weight. Cholesterol went down. People felt better – more energized and alert. And other researchers have proven that the DASH diet prevents heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, kidney stones, and colon cancer. It even helps people think better! There is more scientific evidence documenting the benefits of the DASH diet than for any other eating pattern. That's why the USDA recommends the DASH diet as a healthy diet for all Americans!

And that's why, in a recent U.S News & World Report ranking of 20 popular diet plans, the DASH diet was voted the #1 Best Overall Diet.

Even with all these medical reasons to follow the DASH diet, we know that it is hard to change your eating habits. That's where this DASH for Health website comes in. People just like you have lost weight, lowered blood pressure and felt so much better after using this program. You'll use tools on the site to learn the DASH diet. You'll start a healthy exercise program. People who enroll in our DASH for Health program lower their blood pressure, lose weight, and enjoy more variety and balance in their food choices. And they maintain those benefits for years.
